The Department was created in 2018 by combining the Department of Economics and Finance and the Department of Economics of Enterprise and Economic Theory.

Head of the Department is Academician of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Pavlo Zakharchenko.

The history of the Department of Economics and Finance dates back to 2000, when two separate departments, the Department of Economic Cybernetics and the Department of Finance and Credit, were functioning at the Azov Regional Institute of Management (the ARIU). Due to the ARIU reorganization and transition to the structure of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, in 2012 the Department became a part of the Faculty of Economics and Management and was named the Department of Economic Cybernetics and Finance. In 2017, the Department was renamed the Department of Economics and Finance. Head of the Department is Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, and Academician of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine Pavlo V. Zakharchenko.

The history of the Department of Economics of Enterprise and Economic Theory began in 1932, since the establishment of the Pedagogical Institute. At that time, it was called the Department of Historical and Economic Disciplines, bringing together all teachers of Historical, Economic, and Philosophical disciplines. It existed until December 1985, when three Departments of Social Science were established on its basis: the Departments of History, the Departments of Philosophy, and the Departments of Political Economy.

Taking into account the urgent need for training specialists in the field of Economics of Enterprise, in accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of the University, the Faculty of Economics was established in 2003. Since the foundation of the Faculty, the Department of Economics of Enterprise has functioned in its structure.

In March 2012 the Department of Economics of Enterprise and Economic Theory became a part of the Faculty of Economics and Management headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Hryhoriy Saienko. From 2014 to 2016, the Department of Economics of Enterprise and Theory of Economics was headed by PhD in Economic Sciences, an Associate Professor Tetiana Sydorchenko.

Since September 1, 2016, the Department is part of the Faculty of Humanities and Economics, headed by PhD in History, an Associate Professor Tamara Makarenko. Since 2017 Head of the Department is Academician of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Pavlo Zakharchenko.
