Biography

Maryna Pohrebniak was born on August 31, 1959 in the city of Cherepovetsi, Volohda oblast.

1974 – a candidate for master of sport of the USSR in figure skating;

1976 – a sports instructor and a referee;

1981 – graduated from Leningrad Civil Engineering Institute;

1983 – a graduate of O. Kukin Leninhrad studio – dance Theatre “Modern”;

1998 – graduated from Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, majoring in “Amateur and Folk Arts” (qualification: educator ballet master, lecturer in professional disciplines).

1995-2005 – worked as the head of the School Dance Theatre under the National culture preserve of Ukrainian pottery; deputy director for art disciplines, Choreography teacher and the head of the folk group of modern ballet at the state specialised art boarding school “Maria” for levels I-III – “Collegium of Arts” in Opishnia.

1998-2007 – an assistant of the Department of Choreography at Poltava V.G. Korolenko State Pedagogical University;

2008-2010 – Senior Lecturer at the above-mentioned department;

2009 – successfully defended her PhD thesis on the theme A “Modern” Dance in the Artistic Culture of the Twentieth Century” and obtained her PhD in Art Criticism degree as per program subject area ‘The Theory and History of Culture” (Specialized Academic Council for PhD Thesis Defence Д 26.807.02 at Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts University (thesis adviser – Olena V. Kasianova, PhD in Art Criticism, Professor, Honoured Arts Worker of Ukraine, professor at the Department of Opera Training and Music Direction at Petro Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine);

2012 – was conferred an academic title of an Associate Professor of the Department of Сhoreography.

2010-2019 – worked as an Associate Professor at the Department of Сhoreography at Poltava V.G. Korolenko National Pedagogical University and was the artistic director and a ballet master of the folk group of modern ballet “Maria” at Poltava V.G. Korolenko National Pedagogical University;

2018 – has been a postdoctoral student of M.T. Rylskyi Institute for Art Studies, Folklore and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;

2019 – has been a member of the International Dance Council at UNESCO;

2020 – has been working at the Department of Theory and Teaching Methods of Art Disciplines;

  • has been teaching the course “TheTheory and Methods of Contemporary Dance;
  • has been supervising term papers in the discipline The Theory and Methods of Teaching Contemporary Dance.
