Research institutes

Three scientific research institutes function on a voluntary basis at Berdyansk State Pedagogical University.

At the Institute for Nanotechnology (Director: Valerii Kidalov, DSc in Mathematics, Professor) at the expense of the state budget major research is carried out: “The Development of Technology for Obtaining Quantum-sized Structures and Nanostructured Materials and the Study of Their Properties” (project manager: Valerii Kidalov, DSc in Physics and Mathematics, Professor) and “Composites on the Basis of  Chalcogenide Glasses and Polymers as Materials for Creation of Photonic Elements” (project manager: Ihor Rohozin, PhD in Mathematics, Associate Professor).

The Research Institute for Historical Urbanism (Director: Viktoriia Konstantinova, DSc in History, Professor) was founded in 2012 by scientists of Berdiansk State Pedagogical University in cooperation with M. S. Hrushevskyi Institute for Ukrainian Archeography and Source Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The directions of the Institute research are: multidisciplinary scientific research of urban history; the work as the editorial board and authors of the Frontiers of the City, a historical and cultural almanac; conducting oral historiographical research on urban history with the formation of an oral historiographical interviews archive; formation of a depository for cinematographic documents on urban history; public activity aimed at popularizing the history of cities and cooperation of scientists with society.

Research Institute for Slavic and Comparative Studies (Director: Sofia Filonenko, DSc in Philology, Professor) is a co-organizer of annual international scientific conferences of philologists in Berdiansk. In 2014 – 2017, the national contest of students’ scientific works in the domain of ‘Gender Research’ was held under its auspices. The research institute maintains scientific contacts with the universities of Poland, Mexico, Germany, Belarus, as well as with the Ukrainian mission of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, with the help of which lectures and public discussions were held with the participation of Oksana Kis, Tamara Zlobina, Tetiana Pastushenko and some other distinguished scholars.
